Since the launch of the Legion Go, graphic driver releases have been very rare and the reason is because of the native portrait display that the device comes with. Lenovo has to create custom drivers based off AMD’s drivers to accommodate the Legion Go screen and at this point of the life cycle the odds of getting up to date drivers are very slim.
Lucky enough, there is a workarounds that allows you to sideload ROG Ally’s official drivers on the Legion Go and it works well based off my testing.
How To Use ROG Ally Graphic Drivers For The Legion Go
1. Download and Prepare the Driver
- Download the latest graphics driver from the official ASUS ROG Ally X or ROG Ally support page here.
- Move the downloaded installer.exe file to your desktop.
2. Uninstall the Previous Driver
- Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the old graphics driver. Download it here.
- Open up DDU, select GPU as the device type on the right side and click the Clean and Restart button.
3. Extract the Driver Files
- After your Legion Go restarts, Launch the graphic driver .exe file you downloaded from your desktop.
- Select the “extract” option to extract the driver files. A new folder named “drivers” will be created on your C drive.
4. Manually Install the Driver
- Open Device Manager and go to “display adapters”.
- Right-click your display device and select “update driver”.
- Choose the option to “browse my computer for drivers” and point it to the “drivers” folder you just extracted.
- The file you want to select will be inside the
Packages/Drivers/Display/WT6_INF/folder. Select theu0415200.inffile. - Select “AMD Radeon Graphics” from the list to begin the manual installation.
5. Finalize the Installation
- Launch the graphic driver setup.exe file again.
- This time, select the “install” option to register all the necessary components.
- Restart your device when prompted.
- Once you get back to Windows, you can right click the desktop and click AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
